One of the organizations that ranks universities worldwide, CWUR ranked Middle East Technical University 1st among foundation and state universities in Türkiye and 627th among world universities in the CWUR 2023 World University Rankings.
In the CWUR 2023 rankings, where 20,531 universities were evaluated, METU ranked within the top 3.1% worldwide and placed 319th in the employability category.
As the organization conducting the most comprehensive academic ranking on a global scale, Center for World University Rankings uses objective indicators that are independent of surveys and university data submissions in its ranking methodology, which is based on the main categories of education, employability, faculty, and research. Accordingly, the indicators and their weight distribution in the total score consist of the following categories:

Education: This category, weighted at 25%, is measured by the number of alumni who have achieved major academic distinctions relative to the university’s size.

Employability: This category, weighted at 25%, is measured by the number of alumni holding top executive positions in the world’s largest companies relative to the university’s size.

Faculty: This category, weighted at 10%, is measured by the number of faculty members who have achieved major academic distinctions.

Research: This category is measured through the following four subcategories, each weighted at 10%:
i. Research Output: Measured by the total number of research articles.
ii. High-Quality Publications: Measured by the number of research articles published in top-tier journals.
iii. Influence: Measured by the number of research articles published in highly influential journals.
iv. Citations: Measured by the number of highly cited research articles.
