ECO-BASE Project

ECO-BASE

CO₂ storage is inevitable to achieve the 2°C and below target. Commercial utilization of CO₂ is one of the mechanisms to create a business case for CO₂ storage, and CO₂-EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) is currently the only process that can continuously utilize large volumes of CO₂ and subsequently store them.

ECO-BASE will develop revenue streams and business models for CO₂-EOR (enhanced oil recovery) in South-Eastern Europe (SEE), thereby supporting large-scale CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage) deployment. ECO-BASE started in August 2017 and is planned to end in September 2020. The project is carried out locally in the South-Eastern European countries of Turkey, Romania, and Greece with the support of TNO (Netherlands) and IRIS (Norway). The project team will access the entire revenue stream and focus on the optimization of CO₂-EOR combined with permanent storage (EORStore) as an indivisible process.

The main objective of the ECO-BASE project is to demonstrate the ability of CO₂-EOR to economically improve oil production in the region and serve as a revenue stream for reliable permanent CO₂ storage. For more information about the ECO-BASE project, visit https://ecobase-project.eu.
