According to the 2022 Türkiye Patent Report prepared by Patent Effect, Middle East Technical University ranked first once again this year, as it had in the previous two years, both in the number of commercialization agreements and in the cumulative number of commercialized and licensed patents. As a result, METU has maintained its leading position in these areas since 2020, according to the reports published by Patent Effect over the last three years.
The “Türkiye Patent Map 2022 Report,” announced on April 27, 2023, was prepared using patent data, one of the key parameters for measuring and monitoring the innovation performance of countries, companies, universities, and institutions. The report provides a general analysis of patent applications filed by domestic institutions operating in Türkiye up to December 31, 2022.
As of the end of 2022, METU ranked first among universities and research centers in terms of cumulative commercialization agreements, with 48 commercialization agreements and 50 licensed/transferred patents. METU also ranked first based solely on its 2022 performance, achieving 15 commercialization agreements and 14 licensed/transferred patents. In addition, METU became the university with the highest number of patent applications from Türkiye among European Patent Applications.
The commercialization processes of inventions developed by faculty members at METU are carried out by the METU Technology Transfer Office. The METU TTO patent portfolio includes more than 200 inventions across a wide range of fields, from biomedicine to defense technologies and from nanotechnology to information technologies.
